For most beginners, electric powered cars are mostly advisable. It has lesser things and parts to tweak than the gas powered cars. They are much easier to store and to start. They are faster and lighter than the gas powered ones. Each electric RC car needs a set of batteries. In order to save, most hobbyists buy the rechargeable ones. Although it may seem more expensive than the regular ones in the beginning, in the long run however, it would come out much cheaper.
On the other hand, for people who want to get more satisfaction in overcoming a good challenge, one could get the gas powered RC models. There are a lot more different parts. To begin with, you will need a kit that includes glow plugs, receiver battery, nitro engine starters, speed control devices, nitro fuel, and starter and performance packs.
Glow plugs are used to heat up your engine. It gives the needed external energy to heat up the car within. It is powered by batteries that need to be charged from time to time.
A receiver battery is needed to power the radio gear. Again, it is way better to get the rechargeable ones to save up in the long run.
There are two types of nitro starters. There is the pull type and the other is the non pull type. The pull type is cheaper but subjects your engine to more wear and tear, whereas the non pull type gives better performance. It is a little smaller than the pull type that gives more room for your engine. Less weight and more power to the car. It can make your car sit lower and improves the car’s center of gravity. The non pull type need a starter box.
Speed Control Devices. There are a lot of different models for you radio controls. You can choose from the different models available on the market.
Nitro Fuel. Although it is popularly known as gas powered engines, your RC cars do not run entirely on pure gasoline. It is a cocktail of alcohol, nitromethane and oil. Ask your dealer for the right ratio on the cocktail of buy a ready made blend.
